Die Erforschung und Interpretation von Inhalt und Symbolik der Bildgegenstände unter Berücksichtigung von zeitgenössischen literarischen Quellen wie z. B. der Philosophie, Dichtung und Theologie, die auf die jeweiligen Motive und ihre Darstellungsweise Einfluhatten, wird auch als Ikonologie bezeichnet. Eine erste systematische Lehre dieser Methode (Ikonologie) legten die Kunsthistoriker Aby Warburg und Erwin Panofsky vor. Christliche Sozialethik > Sozialtheologie; Soziale Theologie; Christliche Soziallehre > Sozialethik; Christliche Ethik > Die Christliche Soziallehre ist die Sammelbezeichnung für die katholischen, evangelischen und orthodoxen Soziallehren. Je nach Gesichts- und Standpunkt werden dafür auch andere Bezeichnungen verwendet: Christliche Gesellschaftslehre, Christliche Gesellschaftsethik, Christliche Gesellschaftswissenschaft, Christliche Sozialethik, Christliche Sozialwissenschaft usw. Diese alternativen Bezeichnungen stehen wieder unter ökumenischem Vorbehalt, d.h. es gibt diese Bezeichnungen jeweils auch in katholischer, evangelischer und orthodoxer Version. Dabei haben die einzelnen Konfessionen und deren Vertreter des Fachgebiets unterschiedliche Präferenzen.
